Sewing Cards

I love to sew (although don't do it nearly as much as I'd like...such is the life of a busy mom!). And of course my kids always want to try what they see me doing (if only this phase would last forever...).

I remember having sewing cards when I was a kid and loved playing with them. Here's an easy (and cheap!) way to make them yourself - in whatever shapes your kids like!

Here's what you need:
Construction paper
No-heat laminating sheets (you can find these on Amazon or at any big office supply store)
Shoe laces
Hole punch
Scissors

Here's what you do:
1. Cut your desired shapes out of the construction paper (you can have your kids do this part if they are good with scissors - or draw the shape for them to cut out).

2. Remove the backing of one sheet of laminating paper.

3. Place the cut-out onto the sticky side of the paper.

4. Remove the backing of a second sheet of laminating paper and place it onto the first - make sure the sheets are lined up sticky-side to sticky-side. Depending on the size of the sewing cards you want to make, you can put more than one cut out onto a laminating sheet. We made ours kinda big, so we could only fit one per sheet.

5. Cut around the construction paper shape - leaving about 1/2 inch of the "laminated" edge.

6. Punch holes around the edge of the construction paper shape about 3/4" to 1" apart.

7. Use the shoe string as your needle and thread (the plastic thingy at the end of the shoe string works as your "needle").

8. Start sewing!
