This recipe calls for a bunch of ingredients you most likely don't already have around your house, but they're relatively inexpensive and once you buy them, you can make a TON of lip balm. And if you put the lip balm into little Carmex-style containers (you can find the containers online), you can refill them yourself! I usually get my supplies from Organic Creations online.
Here's what you need:
1 1/2 tablespoon beeswax pastilles
1 1/2 tablespoon shea butter
1 tablespoon cocoa butter
2 tablespoons almond oil
Ten lip balm jars
Here's what you do:
In your smallest pot melt the beeswax, stirring constantly over medium heat. Add the remaining ingredients until everything is melted together. Pour into jars. A teeney tiny funnel is helpful to pour the melted stuff into the jars, although I've found it virtually impossible to NOT spill. I highly recommend placing the jars onto some plastic wrap, aluminum foil, or wax paper BEFORE pouring to save yourself the trouble of having to clean up the hardened lip balm mess on your counter.
It's pretty easy to clean up, but the wax/butter takes a little time to get out of the pot. It will NOT damage your pot, but it helps to use warm water, soap, and one of those sponges with the scrubby side. Your hands feel really really soft after you're done cleaning it up :-)
And it feels AMAZING on your lips!!! My kids LOVE making it and using it (and when my younger daughter puts some in her mouth, I don't have to panic).
