Sometimes as adults we forget about the unique perspective kids bring to the world. They have such an amazing ability to notice interesting little details that we grown ups might otherwise miss. A great way to get a little sneak peek into the eyes of your child is with a camera! I've found the toy cameras for kids are usually pretty low-quality and produce very grainey photographs. We got a new digital camera a while back and let our then-two-year-old have fun with the old one (with supervision). She took about 300 photos in a few hours! She photographed her room, her sister, our dog, our house...then we took a walk and she photographed all sorts of interesting patterns, shapes, shadows... It was amazing! And she LOVED getting to see all her artwork on the computer later. We're going to eventually make a little scrapbook/art book of all of her photographs for her.
Here's a bit of what she saw:
For our next photography expedition we're going to do a scavenger hunt. My kids will each get a camera and a list (I'll draw the items on the list since they can't read yet). Then they'll need to go through the house/neighborhood and find things like:
-a dog
-a yellow leaf
-a cool-shaped rock
-a neat pattern
-a fence
-a mailbox
-a pretty cloud
-a beautiful smile
-a slide
-your feet
...you get the gist. The possibilities are endless!!! Happy picture-taking!
