My daughter and her cousin having fun with slime...(photo courtesy of Simply Snapshots - used with permission)
Here’s what you need:
Water
Elmer’s white glue (other brands probably work too, I just always get Elmers)
Borax (you can find this in the laundry soap section of your local Walmart/Target, and it’s cheap)*
Food coloring (if you want it to be a color other than white)
1. Mix 1 tablespoon Borax with 1 cup of water.
2. In a SEPARATE bowl, mix ½ cup glue with ½ cup water. ***If you want your slime to be a color other than white, add a few drops of food coloring HERE. The color will not blend properly if you wait until the end to add it.*** (I know this from experience, when my kids REALLY wanted pink slime and I waited until the end to add the food coloring...they were bummed)
3. Slowly add the Borax/water mixture to the glue/water mixture. It will immediately start to polymerize. Sometimes there’s a little extra water left in the bowl after I take out the ball of goo.
4. Start playing! It will be goopy at first and then continue to polymerize as your kids play with it, ending up kind of like a silly-putty consistency. You can store it in an airtight Tupperware container or Ziplock bag to play with again later.
NOTE: This is NOT edible.
*Ok, and now that you have a bunch of Borax left...here’s a few lists of things you can use Borax for (it’s a very useful substance!):
